RE: Party Games??

We are celebrating our daughters Sweet 16 by taking her and a couple friends on a camping weekend. Not sure how this idea would be for your situation, but I am planning to buy a folding bag chair for each girl (there are only 4) and a bunch of fabric paint, and letting them go to town decorating their own camping chair, then they can take it home as a souvenir :)COOL idea! Different spin on our shirt painting, I totally want to try this...
Thanks! Have fun...we'll be trying it out in a couple of weeks, I think they'll enjoy it...gotta be creative with 16 year olds!!

RE: Shared water toys etiquette?

We are boat owners as well and our take is this: If we are using our boat anyway and we invite guests to come along, we do not expect nor will we accept gas money. In the situation of the OP, since you used the jet skis by yourself, I do think it would have been appropriate to chip in gas money.

RE: Pray for Ames Brook Campground NH Family

We are devastated to hear about this...we were just at Ames Brook last weekend, on a site directly on the brook. The water was only ankle/shin deep and it was beautiful. It rained Saturday night and we noticed the runoff coming down the road through our site and into the brook,so we all just went in our camper and watched a movie, not thinking much of it. I cannot believe the water raged so terribly just 4 days later and took this little girl's life. I am completely saddened by the whole story; could hardly sleep last night thinking about that poor family and the people camping who had to witness and experience everything. I'm also sad for the CG owners. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and all those who are dealing with the devastation of the flooding.

RE: Describe entry level

I would think an entry level RV is one that allows the buyer to feel comfortable making the leap to purchase their first one, without going too crazy and overbuying.

RE: 30 foot or 34 foot...is the 4 foot difference a big deal?

The space is nice, but I would definitely suggest thinking about where you really enjoy camping because at 34 feet you might have a hard time getting onto certain types of sites.

RE: question about camping...What do you think???

We ran into a very similar situation last summer...we were on a wooded site and there was a path through the woods from the back side of it that went to the camp store. So, everyone around us felt it was appropriate to cut right through our site (right between our TT and picnic table, not around the perimeter). We decided to reposition our site and block the entrance to it with our camp table, grill, picnic table etc so there wasn't a clear way to cut through. It worked :)

RE: INcreasing mileage with a cap

Can't hurt, can it? And , you gain extra dry space for your trip.

RE: Privacy curtains, hanger

I created my own privacy curtain for our bunk area using a tension curtain rod (I bought one that would fit the 4-5 ft span I have in my TT bunk area). You can either purchase curtain panels, or I happened to find a rectangle tablecloth made out of this nice material that matched our interior, used rings with clips to hold the material (the rings just slide across the rod like a shower curtain would). We place the tension rod up near the ceiling, held by the two opposite walls, and it's all set..no screws or anything. It was very inexpensive too...the rod was about $5, the tablecloth was 4 or 5 dollars on clearance and I got the pkg. of 12 ring clips at the dollar store :)

RE: Vermont campground

P.S. Sorry...Not sure if Gold Brook has full hookups or not...we had our pop up at the time and weren't really using the hookups much... you'd have to call them to see.

RE: Vermont campground

We've stayed at Gold Brook in Stowe as well--would go back again if we headed up that way. It is very open, I think the best sites are the ones that back up to the brook IMO.
It's a good place to have as a base for activities.

RE: Other New Prospective Buyers

Camping has such a wide variety of options that it's affordable for just about anybody if you put some thought into it. You can tent all the way up to using a motor home...just decide what you are most comfortable affording to do, and go that route. IMO I wouldn't "waste" precious time wondering about the economy...get out there and have some fun, no matter how you do it. Buy a small TT or pop up if that makes you feel better, then if finances and the economy take a turn for the positive and you feel more confident, buy something bigger at that point.
I think a lot of us have done it that way. We started camping in a tent then used an old '72 pop up that was given to us for 2 years before deciding to make the leap and purchase a TT. Good luck!

RE: Next stop, SW Maine and White Mountains

Whew...glad some others agreed about Danforth vs. Chocorua...I started to feel like I was being too negative, but I want them to have a good camping experience here!
We love MiTeJo too...you can tell the good ones, they're so hard to get in to! We book them a year in advance sometimes.
We're heading out soon to White Lake State Park for the first time...can't wait to check out a "new" CG.

RE: Next stop, SW Maine and White Mountains

Wishing you well at Chocorua Camping Village, I think their website is misleading, IMHO; we made reservations there based on their website, drove through one day to check it out and then canceled...if you can get in to Danforth Bay you should try it. We've heard good things about Cove Camping Area, too. Wherever you stay, definitely pop up to North Conway; beautiful views, shopping (Zeb's :)) and you can drive the Kancamagus from there. North Conway is probably 1/2 hr or so from Chocorua.

RE: Yogi Bears Jelly Stone

We've stayed at the Jellystones in Ashland, NH; Luray, VA; and Sturbridge, MA...they all vary because I think they are independently owned. Just do research on the particular one you want to go to. We loved Ashland and Luray but did not like Sturbridge at all--we would never go back to that one. The Jellystones are pricey, too. They have a ton of amenities/activities but you pay for it. I think we've paid an average of $50-$60/night. We've started going before Memorial Day or after Labor Day because they cut the rates, still have activities and the weather is still nice :)
If the one your thinking about going to is nicely kept and your looking for a resort/campground, we think it's worth going...our kids love it.
Hope this helps.

RE: Road Restirctions

Just re-read the OP; I don't think rvtrips.com will tell you where you can and can't go with an RV, but it will map out the trip avoiding certain obstacles that you don't want to run in to, once you know what you need to avoid :B. Sorry...

RE: Road Restirctions

You could try rvtrips.com and click on "trip planner".
We used this when planning a trip from New Hampshire to Virginia and we put in the criteria to avoid tunnels, bridges etc.
Hope this helps.

RE: Camping lights/Decor!!!!!!

Yes, I always put up lights around our awning, they are multicolored flowers. I call them my "cheesy lights" :)
We use tiki torches sometimes, too. We enjoy checking out how others have decorated their sites. Some people really get into it, like at Halloween or if it's Christmas in July or something like that. We don't get quite that into it, but it is festive.

RE: Misquito repellent or remedy?

I think I'm going to try the Listerine idea as well. My daughter's Girl Scout leader just passed around an email about this idea last week, now seeing it mentioned here too, I think it's worth a try.
